The Mean Value Theorem
If a function is continues and differentiable within the closed intervals [a, b] then:
f'(c)= [f(b)- f(a)]/ b-a
IN other words this mean that there is a point between the closed intervals of which the instantaneous slope is equal to the average slope of the closed intervals.
For Example:

f(x)=X^2, [1, 4] (its both differentiable and continues between the closed intervals)
the average slope OR in other word the secant line is 4x
To find the secant line you have to use the formula [f(b)- f(a)]/ b-a it give you the slope which is 4. Then you use the point-slope form y-y1=m(x-x1)using either one of the close interval points (1,1) or (4, 16).
According to the mean value theorem there is a point between the close intervals [1,4] of which the instantaneous slope or in other word the tangent line is parallel to the secant line.
Now you use the slope you got and set it equal to f'(c)

Set your mind to success (the true success)
1. Which mindset so you think you are a part of when it comes to "intelligence"?
I am a mix of both a fixed mindset and a growth mindset. When it comes to challenges I could be up for them but, it sadly depends the challenge and the mood I'm in (if I'm too stressed or frustrated chances are I'll give up). When it comes to obstacles i try finding other ways around it and if not I'll just confront it. I'll use what i know to get through it and if i don't have all that is needed I'll try asking for help although i don't really like to. I always try to do my best but, when i don't see results quickly i start losing hope. I really hate asking questions and giving my opinion because i don't like people saying I'm wrong because then i feel pretty stupid. Criticism I don't see as an insult i see it a downer. When it comes to the success of others i can be pretty envious but, then again i let them have their moment. The success of others also encourages me to do better sort of like a friendly competition
2.How has this mindset helped or hurt you in math?
Well because i like math i don't really think its hurt me. Yeah there are times when one problem takes like a half page to do and that can really frustrate but, in the end i get over it. Or sometimes when you do a silly mistakes like confuse a + for a - then you have to see where it is that you did your mistake and then do the problem all over again.
3.What is your reaction to finding out that the brain is just like a big muscle that can be trained?
It useful to know because now you won't go saying your stupid and can't do anything about it. You need to just keep trying, don't give up and see the positive outcomes of your hard work and effort.
4.How do you see this new piece of information affecting your future?

Algebra Vs. Calculus
1. What is the difference between finding the limit of a function at x=c and actually plugging in the number x=c? When are the two cases the Same?
The difference between the anwers of the two ( finding the limit of the finction at x=c and finding f(c) ) depend on the function ( Whether it is continuous or not). When you are finding the limit of a function at x=c you are finnding the output as you are approaching that constant.
Example:
lim 1/x
lim 1/x
x-> 0 the answer is infinity
When you are finding f(c) (pluggin in the x=c) you are looking for the exact output when x=c.
Example: (same as previews)
f(x)= 1/x when x=0
f(0)= undefined
As you can see the the two answers are different due to the fact that the function is discontinuous at that constant
They are usually the same when the function is continuous or at least continuous at that constant (x=c)
Example:
lim 2x+5....................................................................2x+5 when x=4
lim 2x+5....................................................................2x+5 when x=4
x-> 4 ............................................................................answer 13

The function is continuous therefore the answers are the same
2. What are the similarities between finding the derivative and finding the slope of a line? What is the difference between the two?
the similarity between finding the derivative and finding the slope of a line is that you are taking the change of y ( the output) over the change of x (the input).
The difference between the two would be that you goal when finding the derivative is to finding the exact speed at that point, in other words you are finding the tangent line. When you are finding the slope you are just finding the average speed or change between two points, in other word the secant line.

LIMITS
One thing I'm not sure of when it comes to limits is when the problem involves sin, cos, tan, sec, csc, cot
it confusing.
for example, on the test (6 sinX)/ (7x) or on page 76 # 26 or 23
Another thing i did not understand was when it asked you to identify the functions as continuous or discontinues and if it could be removed or not . How can you show that a function is continues or not??
I also had a hard time when it asked you to sketch a graph of a function that satisfied the stated conditions like in page 78 # 55& 56
Limits seems to be a problem in calculus and if it is going to be involved in much of the work we are going to do it ganna suck. I need a review or a better understanding of limits.

COLLEGE!!!
Man less than 2 years and we're off to college SCARY!!

I like math, history pretty interesting, I'm beginning to like English
Man I'm lost after High School
1. Majors
- Anthropology
Is is studying different culture. People have to be open minded and respect the differences between cultures. In this field one compares different cultures and also gets to see the changes they develop over time. This major is the study of humans and other primates (such as chimps). They recommend you take AP Human Geography; AP World History; Biology; Sociology; Foreign Language in High School
-Applied Mathematics
It uses math an statistics to solve problems in applied science and engineering. I also involves numerical analysis and optimization theory. They recommend to take AP Calculus; AP Statics; Physics, Trigonometry, Geometry, and Discrete Math.
-Geology
This major focuses on Earth and forces acting upon it (solids, liquids, gasses) It studies the historical geology, rock and soil chemistry and the use of minerals in industry. Geography, chemistry, physics, and biology are very important in this major. They recommend you take AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science and AP Physics.
2. Colleges
- UC Davis
It is a public 4year university. It is in a small city. It is a residential campus. There is an average of 58% women and 42% men. 15% of Hispanics of the students are Hispanic. About 53% of applicants are admitted.
-UC Berkeley
It is also a public 4year university. It has a 22% of applicants admitted. About 91% of students are In-state students. There is about 11% of Hispanic students. It is in a small city on a residential campus.
- USC
it is a private 4 year university. Its applicant admission is 22%. It is in a very large city on a residential campus. 53% of the students are in- sate students while 47% are out-of-state. About 53% of students get a G.P.A. 3.75 or higher.
These are only a few of the many colleges that i want to find out more about. Thanks Ms. Hwang for this blog and the websites you gave us. It was very helpful and it gave me an idea of what other universities there are available related to the major you want.
